A team representing the Marine Institute’s Safety and Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre in Stephenville placed seventh overall out of 31 entries at the Atlantic Regional FireFit competition in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Several individual team members also enjoyed personal success at the event.

Governor General Michäelle Jean visited the Marine Institute on Aug. 18 as part of her week-long tour of Newfoundland and Labrador. Gov. Gen. Jean toured MI's Centre for Marine Simulation, where she and her family experienced the full-motion, full-mission ship bridge simulator.
