Introduction
The bachelor of technology program is offered to graduates of nationally accredited applied science and engineering technology and health science technology programs. This program provides additional skills that will enhance the professional development of technologists.
The program consists of courses in basic management, technology management, societal context and research analysis, plus a project and report. The program is available on a full or part-time basis and can be completed fully on-line. All students must complete the complement of 39 credit hours (12 courses plus a project and report). Full-time students can complete the program in one academic year.
The total package of courses, from both the college/institute diploma and the degree programs, provides graduates with strong technical training, meeting national accreditation standards, coupled with a general background in managerial training.
The bachelor of technology has been developed as a program completely separate from the bachelor of engineering. Students wishing to pursue a program leading to designation as a professional engineer must follow a bridging program developed for that purpose.
Program Objective
The purpose of the bachelor of technology degree is to enhance the formal academic backgrounds of technologists. This provides the framework for graduates to advance to senior technical positions and/or move into technology related management sales, marketing, purchasing or similar commercial activities.
The focus on business and technology management enables graduates to develop marketable skills necessary for professional advancement while broadening their understanding of the societal context of technology.
