Aquaculture Facilities

The Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development (C-ASD) of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University hosts a modern aquaculture research facility. The facility is comprised of seven independent recirculating systems capable of using fresh or salt water. A live food culture laboratory (zooplankton and algae), quarantine laboratory, feed preparation area, and histopathology laboratory, equipped with an image analysis system, are included within this facility.

Pilot Plant Facilities

The Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development operates two food pilot plant facilities. The Marine Institute Plant is both provincially and federally registered, and has approved QMP program in place. Clients can develop and process seafood or vegetable based test market samples for export to the world, can use the facilities for developing or testing new equipment and processing technologies, or conduct training workshops for employees and other personnel.
