Roles and Responsibilities
The Role of the Student
MSTM 4100
- Review information pertaining to Web Courses found via the DELT Student Services site http://www.distance.mun.ca/current/technicalsupport.php.
- Identify a potential Project Supervisor(s) and submit required information by Friday of week 2. Consultations might be required with the course Instructor to identify a potential Project Supervisor.
- Develop a project Concept Paper and submit to both the course Instructor and proposed Project Supervisor by Friday of week 3.
- Hold regular communications with the approved Supervisor throughout the semester.
- Develop an annotated bibliography of resources, indentifying current research and knowledge in the project topic area, and submit by Friday of week 6.
- Develop the methodology (a definite set of procedures / plan) and clear timelines for the completion of the project/report and submit to the technical supervisor by Friday of week 8.
- Submit the Project Proposal to both the Project Supervisor and the MSTM 4100 Instructor for grading by Friday of week 12. The Proposal will be consistent with the approved Project Concept.
- Ensure that the Project Supervisor, the MSTM 4100/4200 Instructor, and the Coordinator of Advanced Programs are informed of any anticipated difficulty in meeting required deadlines at least one week prior to any submission.
MSTM 4200
- Hold regular communications with the Supervisor and seek feedback on project progress and results throughout the semester.
- Using the approved proposal and annotated bibliography completed in MSTM 4100, generate a draft copy of the final project sections 1.0 (Introduction) and a minimum of 5 pages of the report body for submission and evaluation to course facilitator and technical supervisor by the end of Week 5 in the term registered. This submission must also include all appropriate documentation for student research to date.
- Continue to gather research material as appropriate, complete the project, and generate a Project Report for submission and evaluation to course facilitator and technical supervisor by the end of Week 8 in the term registered.
- Revise the Project Report by incorporating suggestions/comments made by the course facilitator and technical supervisor, in preparation for circulation of the Project Report to an external examiner.
- Submit one electronic copy of the final Project Report to the Coordinator of Advanced Programs by Friday of Week 11 in the term registered for MSTM 4200 ((postal address and other contact information is posted on the Website. The Final Report Submission Form must be signed by both parties and attached as a separate document in the same message or faxed to the Coordinator of Advanced Programs.
