1. How do I apply to graduate?
Graduation requirements are different for each program. For most programs, you must successfully complete all of your program courses and have an average of 60%.
You must also have completed the required sea time for:
- Nautical Science
- Marine Engineering
- Bridge Watch
- Marine Diesel Mechanics
Your sea time must be logged with Transport Canada. You must submit an official document from Transport Canada demonstrating your sea time to the Registrar’s Office. Once you meet these requirements, submit an Application to Graduate by April 30th to the Marine Institute Registrar's Office or online through Student Self Service.
2. When does the graduation take place?
Friday, June 15 at 2:00 pm in the Marine Institute Gymnasium.
The ceremony is approximately one hour and 30 minutes in length.
3. Do I have to tell someone that I will be attending graduation?
Once you are approved to graduate, please let us know if you are able to attend graduation so we can order your cap and gown. You can also request additional tickets.
4. Where do I pick up my academic dress and tickets?
The Graduation List will be posted outside the Registrar's Office on June 11 (after 1:00 pm). Candidates can also check the student self-service for their status.
Tickets
Graduation invitations will be available from Information Services on June 11 after 1:00 pm. You will need to sign for your tickets, however, you can arrange for another person to pick up your tickets. Each graduate receives three tickets. Graduates do not require a ticket. Graduates can reserve extra tickets. Your name will be placed on a waiting list and you will be notified if additional tickets become available.
Academic dress
Gowns, caps and hoods can be picked up on Graduation day, June 15 from 12 noon - 1:30 pm in the coat room near Hampton Hall in the main lobby.
You will be asked to complete a card, please include your name, home town and program. This information is very important and should be accurate as this is the information the Registrar will announce when you are on stage accepting your diploma.
Once the ceremony is over and you’ve taken your pictures, please return the academic dress to the coat room.
Your official diploma will be available once your return your academic dress.
Attention Advanced Diploma Graduates: If you are attending the Graduation Ceremony, you must pre-order your hood by Monday, June 4th. We are not able to guarantee a hood if you do not pre-order.
