Canada's fishing industry has a major shortage of certified Fishing Masters.
Regulation changes by Transport Canada has created a demand for all classes of Fishing Masters and more fish harvesting training for those in the industry or those who want to enter.
The Marine Institute is now offering a for fish harvesters who want to become a master or mate onboard fishing vessels. This certificate includes the Fishing Master IV program (Term I) and additional technical courses (Term II) including gear technology, fisheries management and enterprise management. The certificate prepares students for Transport Canada examination and fulfills all land-based education credit requirements for Level II certification with the Professional Fish Harvesters Certification Board.
What You'll Need.
Applicants must have 12 months approved Transport Canada sea time on a vessel greater than six metres.
