Be among the professionals who influence this new and rapidly growing sector of the marine industry. As a marine environmental technologist, you will develop environmentally sound projects and work to prevent and create responses to marine pollution or degradation. You will go from lakes to rivers, and coastal zones to the fragile offshore. You will be responsible for protecting the marine environment and developing solutions to manage our marine resources. You will gain hands-on experience as you search for smart solutions in the field, lab and boardroom. Graduates of this program work in diverse jobs and sectors, from safety inspection to climate control abatement, as the environmental industry provides support for all other sectors.
Program Structure
This three-year program consists of six academic semesters, two technical sessions and two work terms.
First Year: Two academic terms followed by a technical session.
Second Year: Two academic terms followed by a technical session and a work term.
Third Year: Two academic terms followed by a work term.
What You'll Need
You must meet the Marine Institute's Application and Admission Regulations either immediately upon graduation from high school, following a period of employment subsequent to graduation, or by transfer from another post-secondary institution.
Proof of physical fitness must be provided by away of a signed Marine Emergency Duties (MED) medical from an approved physican for registration in this program. Contact the Registrar's Office for a list of physicans approved to conduct the MED medical.
Student Experience
The education I received at MI was very good, broad enough to inform across many disciplines yet specific enough to comprehend more focused issues. This program is well worth the time because it provides a comprehensive understanding of a demanding job market. It has allowed me to start a career with room to expand my roles and responsibilities.
