Aquaculture Canada '98 , the 15th Annual Meeting of AAC will be held in
St. John's, Newfoundland from May 31 to June 3, 1998.

The meeting hotel will be the Delta Hotel and Convention Centre.

The theme of the meeting will be

Hotel Accomodations

The meeting is being held at the Delta St. John’s Hotel and Convention Centre. It is located downtown at 120 New Gower Street, St. John’s , NF A1C 6K4. For reservations call 1-709-739-6404 or 1-800-563-3838 or Fax 1-709-570-1622. Please remember to state that you are attending Aquaculture Canada ‘98. The room rate is $110. per night for single or double occupancy. A charge of $15.00 will apply for additional persons. A number of suites and business zone rooms are also available. The hotel has a fitness centre containing and indoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, full health club facilities, aerobic classes and squash courts.

Heritage Aquaculture, the sponsor of the Presentation Awards, will also be hosting a luncheon for students during the meeting. Look for more details when you register.

Tours

Several sight-seeing and educational tours have been arranged throughout the conference for those interested.

Gatherall’s Puffin and Whale Watch offers an exciting visit to the Witless Bay Ecological Reserve, home to over 2 million seabirds. Gatherall’s will have a booth set up in the lobby of the Delta Hotel on Sunday, May 31st and tours can be booked for any day during the conference.

An aquaculture industry tour is being planned for Thursday, June 4th and Friday, June 5th. This will involve a visit to a blue mussel operation in Notre Dame Bay, a scallop hatchery and growout site on the south coast of the island and several salmon and steelhead operations in the Bay D’Espoir area. The cost of this excursion will be $250 for hotel and meals with transportation provided. If you are interested in partaking in this tour, please check the appropriate area.

British Island Tours will also be offering guided tours of St. John’s, the oldest city in North America, in a London style double-decker bus. These tours will be offered on a daily basis before, during and after the conference and anyone interested can sign up at their booth at the Delta.

Information on other local tours and interesting visits in the St. John’s area will be made available on Saturday, May 30th and throughout the remainder of the conference. We look forward to seeing you in St. John’s.
