STUDENTS PRESENTING PAPERS AT THE 
17TH ANNUAL AAC MEETING
IN MONCTON, NB


Students play an active role in the Aquaculture Association of Canada, as such, their participation is welcomed and highly valued. Students will assume the lead role in aquaculture in the near future, whether in industry or in the fields of research and education. To encourage their involvement at the 17th Annual Meeting in Moncton, NB, the AAC is pleased to announce that there will be two types of awards available: Travel Bursaries and Presentation Awards.

Travel Bursaries
Students that are presenting papers on which they are senior authors are eligible to apply for a Travel Bursary. Students are invited to submit a letter of introduction, indicating the program in which they are registered, their travel needs and the level of assistance that they can depend on from "other" sources. They should also include a short reference letter in a sealed envelope prepared by their supervisor or program director along with a copy of their abstract.

Presentation Awards
There will be two cash prizes of $250 awarded, one in each of two categories: oral and poster. A panel of judges representing different sectors of aquaculture will adjudicate.

The criteria for judging presentations are:
Scientific merit (50%): Experimental design and Interpretation of data
Presentation (40%): Oral - clarity, visual aids, organisation, response to questions: Poster - general design, written presentation, visual aids organisation and response to questions.
Abstract (10%): Statement of the problem, objectives, principle findings, and main conclusions.

  • Students must be senior authors and must become members of the AAC on or before the date of the meeting.
  • A minimum of three papers must be presented in each category for awards to be granted.
  • Recipients of awards will be acknowledged publicly at the meeting and in a photograph which will be published as part of the AAC Proceedings in the AAC Bulletin.
  • Students are encouraged to apply to be considered for best presentation awards by indicating this on the Contributed Paper Abstract Application Form and Meeting Registration Form.
