About Us
Welcome to the Web Site for MI International, the focal point of international activities of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland. Through MI International, the Marine Institute participates in international projects and internationalization activities around the world and at home.
The Marine Institute is a world's oceans institute, setting the standard in education, training, innovation and research. The main campus and its complex of facilities is the setting for education and research in the areas of fisheries resource management, aquaculture, agri-seafood processing, post-harvest technology, food safety, quality management systems, marine environment, fisheries technology, marine communications, marine safety and navigation, curriculum development, community-based training, extension training methodologies and strategic planning and project management for all these sectors/fields. MissionThe mission of MI International is to enhance the capacity of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University and its community partners in the public, private and institutional sectors and overall to participate effectively in a global society and economy. ApproachOur approach hinges on three factors:
A persistent focus on quality and attention to detail is inherent in every MI International activity. The international marketplace is highly competitive and in order to be successful, project proposals must be thoroughly researched, must respond to the priorities of all constituents, and must be clearly and professionally presented. In the course of its work, MI International has built extensive knowledge and understanding of international development issues, agency structures and priorities. MI International uses the expertise of MI's 300+ personnel for project implementation. Approximately 130 MI personnel have been engaged internationally. To date MI International has secured more than 85 funded projects in over 35 countries. The majority of MI's international projects are rural community-based with wide-ranging experience in aquaculture and agri-foods post-harvest particularly with non-traditional learners. Partnership is a key dimension of MI International's activities and projects. We form alliances with public, private and institutional sector organizations, building on the capabilities of each partner and broadening the experience of all participants. |
