Applied Research and Development

General Capability

The OSSC is actively involved in efforts to expand the knowledge base and improve technology associated with offshore safety and survival and emergency response. Its applied research unit is actively and currently engaged in several government funded research projects and as well undertakes research projects for its clients.

As part of Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), the OSSC participates in MUN's Oil and Gas Steering Committee and Offshore Research Consortium. The centre also works very closely with the National Research Council's Institute of Ocean Technology (IOT), and Memorial University's faculties of Engineering and Human Kinetics and Recreation on cold water survival and evacuation related research.
