ATTENTION ALL OSSC APPLICANTS


Please be advised that effective January 31, 2011 the Marine Institute has implemented a new enrollment policy for students registering in short courses at the Offshore Safety and Survival Centre (OSSC) and the Safety & Emergency Response Training (SERT) Centre. This policy states that all students, prior to being assigned a seat in any course, must:


1. Pay full amount of fees associated with the course (courses) in which they are registering.

OR

2. Provide written approval of funding support for all fees from a funding agency. If not 100% sponsored by the funding agency, the student must pay any portion of the fees not funded prior to being assigned a seat in the training course.

Refund Policy


Students are eligible for a partial refund of tuition paid under the following circumstances:


1. With 7 days written notice (prior the start day of the course in which the student is registered) the student is eligible for a refund of all fees paid, less the $150 confirmation fee.


2. In the absence of this notice all fees paid are forfeited upon cancellation.

Centre in Command   STCW 95

The Offshore Safety and Survival Centre is now in a position to offer Emergency Command and Control training to senior personal in the offshore and marine sectors. OIM assessments for OIM controlling emergencies in accordance with OPITO standards can also be offered.


The Offshore Safety and Survival Centre has been advised by Transport Canada that the MED training certificates can be endorsed as follows:

Holders of MED B1 certificate only: Meets STCW 95 regulation V1/2 other than fast rescue boats

Holders of MED B1 & B2 certificates: Meets STCW 95 regulation V1/1 and V1/2 other than fast rescue boats

Holders of MED B1, B2 and C certificates: Meets STCW95 Regulations V1/1,V1/2 and V1/3 other than fast rescue boats.

Certificate holders may apply to the OSSC for certificates to be reissued with appropriate endorsement.

Research Centre


The Offshore Safety and Survival Centre was recently successful in obtaining funding from the Atlantic Innovation Fund for the creation of an offshore safety research centre. A number of research projects have been identified in which the capability of the Centre will complement other capability in Newfoundland such as that resident at MUN, NRC IMD and private industry to expand our knowledge in offshore safety.
