Feb. 7 - Are You Up To The Standard?

If you've ever heard of the British Retail Consortium (BRC), you know that the leading trade association sets some of the world's best standards for the production, packaging, storage and distribution of safe food and consumer products.

To help retailers and manufacturers in Canada to avail of these standards, the Marine Institute is offering two training courses this winter in a new BRC standard.

Feb. 7 - Students, Employers Ready for MI Career Fair

For two days this week, students and employers will learn more about each other at the Marine Institute's annual Career Fair Feb. 8 and 9.

This event offers Marine Institute students and alumni an opportunity to network with employers and learn more about the hands-on application of their field of study. Employers have an opportunity to meet students face-to-face and showcase their business to potential employees.

Feb. 1 - Marine Institute host site for Bilingual Postsecondary & Career Fair 2012

The Marine Institute will be working with The Réseau de développement économique et d'employabilité de Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador, in collaboration with its partners, to host the Bilingual Postsecondary & Career Fair 2012, which will take place on February 3, 2012 in St. John's.

Jan. 31 - Writing for success at the Marine Institute

A desire to improve students' communication abilities has recently led Memorial's Marine Institute (MI) to step up to the challenge. A newly created Writing Centre has been devoted specifically to the writing aspects of course work - no matter what field students are in.

Jan. 23 - Conference Allows Youth to Explore Marine Opportunities

Youth from throughout Newfoundland and Labrador are getting the opportunity to participate in Marine Institute Ocean Net's 13th Annual Youth and the Oceans Conference through an investment of $19,650 from the Provincial Government.

The conference includes two days of presentations, break-out sessions, and hands-on activities focusing on ocean sustainability issues, ocean-related careers and highlighting the opportunities for youth innovation and leadership within the marine sector.

Jan. 19 - Q&A: What is it like to be a ship's captain?

Captain Christopher Hearn, director for the Centre for Marine Simulation at Memorial University's Marine Institute, will join the Globe and Mail today at 1:30 p.m. (NL time) to take your questions during a live discussion on the life, code, and responsibilities of a ship's captain.

Jan. 16 - CFER marine biologist to address international conference

Kate Barley, a PhD student and a marine biologist with the Marine Institute's Centre for Fisheries Ecosystems Research (CFER), who says "consultation with fishermen is key", will speak about sustainable fishing at a world conservation conference.

Jan. 13 - Marine Institute Graduation Honours Royal Canadian Navy Students

The Marine Institute held a graduation ceremony for the Naval Combat Systems Technician Training Plan (NCSTTP) on Friday, January 13 at the Drill Hall in Pleasantville.
