Reporting to the Institute's Executive Committee, the Strategic Planning Committee has the following objectives:

• Update the Institute's Strategic Plan as required
• Establish priority initiatives for 2011-2015 for the Marine Institute
• Establish priority initiatives for 2011-2015 for each School, the Division of Academic and Student Affairs, the Office of Research and Development, MI International, and Corporate Services and External Affairs
• Develop implementation plans for priority initiatives
• Undertake preliminary planning for 2015-2020

The Strategic Planning Committee is a standing committee at the Marine Institute. It has thirteen members drawn from across the Institute. Current members are:

• Ex-Offico - Glenn Blackwood, Vice-President of Memorial University (Marine Institute)
• Chair - Kevin Clarke, Director of Corporate Services and External Affairs
• Secretary - Jillian Kavanagh, Planning Analyst

• Peter Fisher - Head, Academic and Student Affairs
• Bev Fleet - Curriculum Development Specialist/Instructor, Academic and Student Affairs
• Ray Roche - Instructor, School of Ocean Technology
• Angie Clarke - Enrolment Management Coordinator
• Cyr Courturier - Instructor, School of Fisheries
• Gerald Anderson - Manager, Marketing and Business Development
• Bill Chislett - Director, MI International
• Ron Newhook - Director of Research and Development
• Joe Singleton - Instructor, School of Maritime Studies
• Mike Fowler - Manager, Human Resources

The members of the Strategic Planning Committee chair five working committees, which correspond to the Institute's five priority areas.
