The Fisheries and Marine Institute Alumni Award

The annual Fisheries and Marine Institute Alumni Award recognizes the exceptional accomplishments of an alum, who has earned national or international prominence for their outstanding professional achievements and/or service to society.

Through their efforts the recipients enhance the reputation and character of the Marine Institute and serve as an inspiration for the MI community and beyond.

Definition of an Alum

For the purpose of the MI Alumni Award, the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University uses the following definition of alum:

An alum refers to any individual who has received a degree, diploma, post-graduate certificate, or certificate requiring undergraduate or academic admission from the Fisheries and Marine Institute and/or Memorial University of Newfoundland (including all predecessors).

Guidelines for Nominations

  • All nominees must be alumni of the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University, that is, have graduated from an Academic Council or Senate approved program at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
  • Nominators do not need to be graduates of the Marine Institute.
  • Nominees can self-nominate.
  • Nominees are not eligible if they previously received the Alumni Award.
  • Nominees are not eligible if they receive remuneration from the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland for activities related to their nomination.
  • All nomination information must be provided in the online form using the link below.
  • Letters of support are optional. They can be uploaded at the end of the online form (a maximum of 4 letters with a 1000-word limit for each).

Nominations for the award will close on May 1 each year. Nominations received after May 1, will be considered for the following year’s awarding.
