For more information on Library services, please visit Memorial University Libraries @ http://www.library.mun.ca/
Memorial University Libraries provides library and information support for Memorial University and Marine Institute distance learning students and off-campus faculty and staff. If you are currently enrolled in a distance course you are entitled to access to library resources and services equivalent to those provided for students in traditional campus settings. Start by checking out the Access from Home page @ http://www.library.mun.ca/usingthelibraries/accessfromhome/. To find this link on the Library site, go to www.library.mun.ca, look under the tab "Using the Libraries" and click on Access from Home. Also under "Using the Libraries" is a link to Document Delivery where you will find request forms for having articles and book chapters delivered right to your door (or desktop).
From the Library home page http://www.library.mun.ca/, note the box called OneSearch. OneSearch helps you search the catalogue for books and find articles on your particular subject. To access more advanced search options, just click Advanced Search.
As a Distance User, you do not require a physical library card to sign out books or use the Library services. Your MUN Login ID and password are all you need.
As a distance student, you are not required to have a MUN photo ID card to use resources from the Library. However, you will need a card if you plan on visiting a Memorial University library in person. All you have to do to obtain a card is follow the directions through MY.MUN.CA or click on https://www.mun.ca/ancillary/campuscard/GetYourCampusCard.php and follow the directions.
Many of the online resources available through the library are restricted to Memorial University users only. When you are using the library catalogue or accessing article indexes through the library web pages, you will be prompted by an off campus login page. You will need to use your MUN Login ID and password.
The next time you need help doing research, accessing an online reading, or have a question about the Library's services and resources, look for "Ask Us" on most Library webpages. Ask Us is your gateway to the variety of help services offered by Memorial University Libraries. We are happy to answer your questions by email, telephone, in-person visits, and even live chats!
Programs offered by the Fisheries and Marine Institute require the use of APA (American Psychological Association) guidelines for the publication of papers and citing of references. The latest edition of the Publication Manual of the American Psychological Association is the 6th edition. The Library provides support at http://www.library.mun.ca/researchtools/guides/citations/apa/ for the use of APA. Use the guides and additional resources (including YouTube videos) listed there to help with the preparation of your citations/references and bibliographies.
