The Marine Institute (MI) Student Support team collaborates closely with the Internationalization Office (IO) at Memorial University, to support program seeking, exchange, and visiting international students at the Institute.

As part of the MI Student Support Team, MI International Student Coordinator (ISC) is the main contact for international student support at the Marine Institute.

The ISC helps international students navigate every step of the way – from program selection, to admission, arrival and settlement, throughout their studies and until graduation. Common concerns may include and not limited to:

• immigration advising referral
• academic advising
• housing
• family support
• job search and career planning
• social and community connection

In addition to answering international students’ concerns, the ISC also provides information relevant to current international students and helps coordinates on campus activities regularly:

• MI International Student Weekly Reminder
  An e-mail reminder is sent weekly to help international students stay informed about news, events, and initiatives on and off campus.
• MI International Student Discussion Group
  MI international students are invited to get together and discuss different topics of interest regularly. Occasionally, guests from the University and the community are invited to provide information during this time. This is a space to address your questions and concerns, but also to relax, socialize and meet new people. Meeting details will be sent through the weekly reminder.

The Internationalization Office (IO) serves all campuses in St. John’s, including the Marine Institute. In addition to helping international students with pre-arrival preparation, International Student Advisors at the IO provide international student support in specific areas, such as immigration advising, foreign health insurance and international partnerships. The IO also offers various informative sessions and social activities for international students regularly.
