New Funding for CFER

A press conference was held at the Marine Institute's flume tank on October 27. The Newfoundland and Labrador Fisheries and Aquaculture Minister, the Honourable Vaughn Granter, announced new provincial funding for CFER in the amount of $2.6 million. This money will help CFER continue its research work, including chartering the RV Celtic Explorer from the Irish Marine Institute. In attendance were Glenn Blackwood, VP Memorial (Marine Institute), Carey Bonnell, Head of the School of Fisheries and Peter Heffernan, Chief Executive of the Irish Marine Institute. In his speech, Glenn emphasized that, “Fisheries research is the key to unlocking our understanding of changing ocean dynamics and contributing to the continued economic growth and success of our fishery."
