Offshore Charters

RV Celtic Explorer

From 2011 to 2015, CFER chartered the RV Celtic Explorer from the Irish Marine Institute to conduct acoustic surveys. CFER is chartering the RV Celtic Explorer from the Irish Marine Institute to conduct acoustic surveys, the first of which took place during the winter of 2011. The second will commence in May 2012.

The RV Celtic Explorer is 65.5 metres in length and accommodates 35 personnel, including 16 to 18 scientists. The RV Celtic Explorer is acoustically quiet with specific noise characteristics that are fully compliant with the noise requirements of the ICES 209 CRR Report.

The vessel is fitted with the latest electronics and scientific equipment, including:

  • scientific echosounders with 18, 38, 120 and 200 kilohertz transducers
  • ocean mapping technologies
