The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of the Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador is delighted to announce that it has been selected to implement the Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funded International Aboriginal Youth Internships initiative (IAYI)!
Through the IAYI initiative, MI is offering four-month overseas internships to indigenous peoples in Canada. MI will be working with various indigenous organizations for recruitment and support in this initiative and will have a special focus on engaging youth located in northern and rural communities in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Throughout the entire internship process, MI will be providing dedicated support to IAYI participants. This will include comprehensive pre-departure training, mentorship and regular follow-up while overseas, and post-internship re-integration and networking activities.
The program endeavours to cover all of the expenses associated with the internships including round-trip return airfare between Canada and the host country, medical insurance, and entry visas. Participants will also receive a modest living allowance to cover basic living expenses (i.e. accommodations, food and local transportation).
To be eligible for the International Aboriginal Youth Internships initiative, candidates must:
