Leaders in the ocean and maritime sectors
Steven Mallam is a researcher and educator specializing in Human Factors focusing on human and organizational performance in the maritime domain. His primary research interests involve the analysis and optimization of people and their work processes within complex socio-technical systems with focus on simulation-based training and assessment, safety, digitization, autonomous shipping and Human-Centered Design. Steven is a Senior Researcher at the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Memorial University of Newfoundland, as well as serving as Adjunct-Associate Professor at the Department of Maritime Operations at the University of South-Eastern Norway and Visiting Researcher at the Oslo School of Architecture and Design.
Steven obtained his PhD in Human Factors from Chalmers University of Technology (Sweden) and a Master of Science specializing in work safety and ergonomics from Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada). Steven has Human Factors and project management experience across differing interdisciplinary projects and academic-industry collaborations within a variety of domains, including maritime transport, commercial fishing, naval and coast guard, energy sectors (offshore oil and gas, mining, renewables) and aviation.
