Dr. Tomas Araya-Schmidt is a fisheries scientist with expertise in sustainable fishing practices and aquatic resource conservation. With a Master's degree in Environmental Science and a Ph.D. in Fisheries Science and Technology, he brings a strong background in applied research. Driven by a passion for improving fisheries sustainability, he has conducted extensive fieldwork and tested innovative fishing technologies.
His expertise lies in identifying innovative approaches and technologies to enhance selectivity, minimize bycatch, mitigate seabed impacts, and optimize the overall performance of fishing gears. Through his research, he has contributed valuable insights and practical solutions to promote sustainable fishing practices and the long-term viability of marine ecosystems.
