Physicians List

Physicians List

Most courses offered by the SERT Centre require students to have a valid Marine Institute or Offshore (CAPP) Medical. You will be notified in your acceptance letter if you require a medical.

SERT/OSSC designated physicians have all of the required documentation and forms to complete the Marine Institute Fitness Classification Form only.

The following is a list of Marine Institute designated physicians: SERT Designated Physicians List

Please be advised: The Transport Canada Marine Medical (Seafarer's Medical) is not valid for SERT courses.

Why do I require a medical?

Clearance is required for those courses which require participant in practical exercise. Exercises are designated to simulate as close as practical, conditions which would exist under real emergency situations and for this reason can be stressful both physically and mentally.

The training institution is under a legal "duty of care" to ensure that all reasonable measures are taken to avoid injury to our trainees. It is essential for this reason that participants in training course are confirmed as meeting an adequate standard of fitness.

What medical clearance is accepted?

The SERT Centre can accept medical clearance based upon Marine Institute medical standards conducted by a Marine Institute approved physician (in accordance with the table below). Students may be required to complete a "Change of Health Status Form" signed by the prospective trainee confirming that there have been no significant changes to medical condition since the conduct of their medical.
