Training and workshops are primarily coordinated through the Community Based Education Delivery Unit (CBED).
Also the Centre for Sustainable Aquatic Resources (CSAR) and the Centre for Aquaculture and Seafood Development (CASD) develop and organize training initiatives for their industrial clients.
The School of Fisheries offers Fishing Masters training to prepare fish harvesters to write Transport Canada examinations. This training is delivered on campus, online and in communities.
On campus training can be completed in two ways:
Online training is available for fish harvesters who would like the flexibility and convenience of studying from any location. Community based training is offered in communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador.
This certificate includes the Fishing Master IV program (Term I) and additional technical courses (Term II) including vessel stability, gear technology, fisheries management and enterprise management.
The Technical Certificate in Fish Harvesting prepares students for Transport Canada examinations and fulfills all land-based education credit requirements for Level II certification with the Professional Fish Harvesters Certification Board.
