48 students were celebrated for their academic success, leadership and innovation at the Marine Institute’s annual Winter Scholarship Ceremony on March 20. Over 50 scholarships, awards and bursaries were presented to students.

Long-time Memorial University supporter the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) continues to look, feel and do good in its 80th year of elevating education through advocacy.
Cyr Couturier is an Aquaculture Scientist and the Chair of Aquaculture Programs at the Marine Institute. His areas of research have included enhanced farm production, environmental management and aquaculture interactions. He has held numerous positions on volunteer boards, both academic and socioeconomic related to sustainable rural and economic development across Canada.
On December 11, 2019, the Marine Institute community, Teekay Offshore leadership and industry partners came together to celebrate a very significant gift to the Institute, the Heritage Bridge simulator from Teekay Offshore. This donation provides the Marine Institute’s Centre for Marine Simulation (CMS) expanded capacity for state-of-the-art offshore and maritime simulation training in Newfoundland and Labrador. The celebration comprised a ribbon cutting event, presentation of the class-A certificate and tours of the new simulator for special guests and industry partners.
Family members of the late Dr. Arthur W. May visited the Marine Institute to cerebrate another lasting contribution of Dr. May to Memorial University with the unveiling of his portrait at the Dr. C. R. Barrett Library, Marine Institute.
For over 20 years the Fry Family Foundation has been dedicated to nurturing and celebrating student leadership throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. Marine Institute students have long benefited from the Foundation’s scholarships and awards and enjoy the Foundation’s generous, multi-year commitment to a Leadership Awards program at the Institute.
Since the Lieutenant Commander (Retired) Anthony Green Ayre Bursary Endowment Fund was established at the Marine Institute in 2015 ten deserving students have already received the bursary.
