How do I apply to graduate?

Graduation requirements are different for each program. For most programs, you must succesMarine Diesel Mechanicssfully complete all of your program courses and have an average of 60%.

You must also have completed the required sea time for:

Your sea time must be logged with Transport Canada. You must submit an official document from Transport Canada demonstrating your sea time to the Registrar’s Office. Once you meet these requirements, Apply for Graduation through Student Self Service. Once in Self Service, go to the Student Menu and select Graduation, then select Apply to Graduate and complete information as requested.

When does the graduation take place?

Friday, June 24 at 2:00 pm in the Marine Institute Gymnasium. The ceremony is approximately one hour and 30 minutes in length.

Will there be a reception this year?

Yes! Following the graduation ceremony, we will celebrate with a reception for all of our graduates, their guests, Marine Institute faculty and staff, and other invited guests.  We look forward to this occasion every year, as it is a well-deserved opportunity for us to honour your achievements.  This year, the reception will take place in the cafeteria, as well in the student lounge and in the tented courtyard at the rear of the building. We hope that you and your guest(s) will join us for this special reception.

Do I have to tell someone that I will be attending graduation?

Please fill out the Graduation Ceremony Attendance Confirmation form. Due to Covid restrictions, graduates can invite a maximum of two guests. If extra seats to the ceremony become become available students will be notified. There will be no physical tickets being issued this year, it will all be in your confirmation email once you fill out this form.

Where do I pick up my academic dress?

Gowns, caps and hoods can be picked up on Graduation Day, June 24 from 11 am - 1:30 pm in the conference center. You will be asked to complete a card, please include your name, home town and program. This information is very important and should be accurate as this is the information the Registrar will announce when you are on stage accepting your diploma. Once the ceremony is over and you’ve taken your pictures, please return the academic dress to the conference center. Your official diploma will be available once your return your academic dress.

How do I get my diploma if I’m not attending the grad ceremony on June 24th?

Diplomas will be sent to your permanent address. Make sure to confirm your permanent address by logging into your self-service.
