Parents and Families

Parents and Families

A student’s decision to attend the Fisheries and Marine Institute is an important one, and one which has an impact on the whole family. That's why we at the Marine Institute recognize that parents, guardians, spouses and siblings need to have information about the institute in order to gain an understanding of our programming and how students can access the resources needed to help them succeed.

The MI Family Orientation has been designed to introduce the family to the Marine Institute, and the resources available that support your student’s successful transition to life at MI. This page will be updated throughout the summer to provide you with an overview of the campus, the services and support available to new students, and an opportunity to speak with current MI students and ask about their experience.

Starting a post-secondary education is an experience full of varying emotions from nervous to excited, but it is an experience like no other. We know that starting this journey during the Covid-19 pandemic can seem daunting, but we promise you this will make a very memorable experience! Our new resources will help to improve the student experience and take it to a new level. We encourage you to take this opportunity to talk openly about these challenges, decisions your student is making, discuss course options, career plans, housing option, health and counselling, financial planning and any other planning or support your student may need.
