FAQ - General

  • Parking permits will be available 12:00 noon Monday September 15th, 2025
  • Parking Permits are processed through an online application at www.mi.mun.ca/studentparking/
  • All students will require a Marine Institute computer account to complete their application. This computer account is specific to the Marine Institute
  • Student will be notified via email if they were successful in receiving a permit
  • Once students have completed the parking permit online application, they will have 5 business days to pay for their Parking Permit. Permits can be paid for at the Cashier’s Office C2210
  • Parking Permits are valid for one semester
  • If students intend to park their vehicle at MI for the duration of the academic year, students should apply for all semesters in their first application in the Fall semester
  • Must have vehicle registration on you when you pick up your permit
  • If the vehicle is not registered in your name, you must have a letter from the person who owns the vehicle stating that they authorize you to have the vehicle/permit
  • The Cashier’s Office accepts cash, debit, Visa and Mastercard
  • Limited number, not guaranteed

Tuition is due on the first day of classes, which is Tuesday, September 9th, 2025. Late payments fees apply if your fees are not paid by the deadline.

Students can log onto their MUN Self Service account and pay their tuition using a credit card. Students also have the option of paying at the Cashier's Office on the Ridge Road campus by cash, cheque, money order or debit card. For information on how to pay your tuition, please visit here.

All new students are required to complete four short, non-credit courses to help you understand important policies and expectations at MI. They are easy to complete and help set you up for success. These are available via Brightspace and can be completed before classes begin. Important reminder that without these courses completed you will not be able to enter any laboratories on campus.

You can rent a locker for the academic year by visiting the bookstore. Lockers can be rented for $20 for an academic year with a deposit refund of $10 when lockers are cleaned out and locks returned to the store. Please check the Services section of the MI Campustore webpage for the Locker Form. Email your form to campusstore@mi.mun.ca or bring a printed copy when you visit the store to receive your locker assignment and lock.

We recommend waiting until student has gone to classes before purchasing textbooks. You will need to have your appropriate books, lab manuals and supplies for your courses after the first day. Books are available at the Campus Store (main lobby) Open 8:30 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. NST Monday-Friday. Booklists, kits and supplies required for your program are now available on the MI website, under the MI Campustore page.

Students will be added to a Welcome Aboard! Brightspace online learning classroom prior to the beginning of classes which will help you become more familiar with services available to you on both the MI and St. John’s campuses. Be sure to check Brightspace for information, important dates and a new student checklist.
