Healthy oceans, health planet – that’s the theme of this year’s World Oceans Day and you’re invited to stop by the Marine Institute on Saturday, June 6 to help us celebrate. There’ll be a sea of activity for visitors of all ages during this free family event which is taking place between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Throughout the day, visitors will have an opportunity to explore a touch tank, pilot a miniature remotely operated vehicle, check out cool gear such as night vision goggles and spotting scopes, get crafty, have their face painted, watch a balloon twister make creations and learn from an array of educational interactive booths. Terry Rielly will also be on hand for a sing-along!
This year’s event is being organized in partnership with the federal Department of Fisheries and Oceans, the provincial Department of Fisheries and Aquaculture, WWF Canada, Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society and the Fish Food and Allied Workers Union.
World Oceans Day raises awareness about the crucial role the ocean plays in our lives and the important ways people can help to protect it. For more information, check out the World Ocean’s Day event page on Facebook.
