The Fisheries and Marine Institute (MI) of Memorial University of Newfoundland will hold its annual Autumn Presentation of Scholarships and Awards on Wednesday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. The ceremony will take place in the gymnasium of the Marine Institute’s Ridge Rd. campus in St. John’s.
Speakers at the event include Derrick Dalley, parliamentary secretary to the minister of education, Provincial Government; Glenn Blackwood, executive director, MI; Dr. Evan Simpson, vice president (academic), Memorial University; and Capt. Sid Hynes, chair, Marine Institute Advisory Committee.
Ninety-three scholarships will be presented to 86 MI students during the ceremony, including 14 scholarships that are being awarded for the first time. Included in this group is the J. J. Ugland Memorial Scholarship, which will awarded to one marine engineering student and one nautical science student. The J.J. Ugland Memorial Scholarship is for first-year MI students and is renewable for one year.
