Diploma of Technology
Students enrolled in the Marine Mechanical Design Diploma Program will be trained to effectively use software that is commonly used in industry, including:
Adobe Acrobat® software lets you deliver professional PDF communications. Create and edit PDF files with rich media included, share information more securely, and gather feedback more efficiently.
NARC students will use this software to create professional-level reports and drawings (with the aid of AutoCAD) for many of their assignments and design project submissions.
Autodesk has been bringing efficiencies to the design process for more than 28 years. Used by millions of people globally, AutoCAD® software is a world-leading design and documentation solution.
Offering robust 3D free-form design tools and powerful drafting and documentation capabilities, AutoCAD drives design innovation for companies of all sizes in almost all industries. NARC students use AutoCAD to prepare most of their drawing assignments and design projects.
When you begin your studies at the Marine Institute, you will be given access to Memorial University's Brightspace system. Brightspace is a course management system that is used for students enrolled in online courses.
Many instructors in face-to-face and web-enhanced courses use Brightspace to provide course materials to their students online. Instructors have the option of requesting that their course be available online (blended classroom).
Many of the courses taught in the classroom now contain Brightspace elements, such as course outlines, schedules, course notes, course resources (content), a place for students to submit assignments and receive instructor feedback (dropbox), and a place for students to view their grades in each course (grades), plus other features that may vary by course.
Creative Systems is the originator of GHS, the world-famous PC-based simulator of vessels in fluids and fluids in vessels - for ships, yachts, docks, drilling platforms, buoys, tanks, etc. - answering such questions as:
NARC students will receive training on this software as part of their stability education.
Building on the familiar tools that many people already know, the Microsoft Office system includes programs, servers, services, and solutions designed to work together to help address a broad array of business problems.
Used together, the Microsoft Office system can help you address business needs ranging from personal productivity management to complex project management. MMD students are taught how to prepare technical reports using MS Word, and learn how use MS Excel to program spreadsheets to perform design calculations.
Express Marine 3D is a software plugin for Rhinoceros 3D that allows users to create parametric 3D models of ship structures, essentially providing a tool for rapid and efficient marine design by enabling quick modifications and updates to a ship's structural components as the design evolves.
Nauticus Hull is our software package for strength assessment of hull structures. It offers all the tools you need for efficient hull design and verification according to DNV Rules and IACS Common Structural Rules.
Rhinoceros 3D (Rhino) is a 3D modeling program used for computer-aided design (CAD) and 3D graphics. It's used in many industries, including marine design, architecture, engineering, construction, and education. .
The program employes the use of VR tools for design investigation, iteration and review.
PropExpert is a propeller selection tool specifically prepared for work boats and pleasure craft. It has been selected as the principal propeller sizing tool of many of the best known manufacturers and distributors of marine engines and propellers.
