Prerequisites

  • Current Basic Survival Training (exp every 3 years) or STCW Basic Safety (or equivalent);
  • Valid CAPP Medical;
  • Valid Quantitative Fit Test Certificate for the Scott AV 3000 face piece

Course Description

This course is designed to enable the student to understand the role of an offshore fire team and to demonstrate the practical aspects of fire suppression in relation to a fire team. This course reflects the requirements outlined in the Standard Practice for the Training and Qualifications of Personnel by the Atlantic Canada Offshore  Petroleum Industry.

Course Outline

  • To enable students to understand why a fire behaves in a particular manner.
  • To enable students to identify the advantages and limitations of personal protective equipment.
  • To students with the knowledge to identify and correctly use firefighting equipment and techniques.
  • To highlight the importance of teamwork during an emergency response.
  • To provide students with knowledge of the inherent hazards of helicopter components and the ability to safely perform helicopter firefighting and rescue.
  • To introduce new methods and technology in fire suppression onboard installations in the offshore oil industry.
