Course Description

This mid-level course is designed to provide fishing masters with knowledge of ships business and related regulation.  This course will be offered online through Memorial University's Distance Learning site with the examination being written at Transport Canada.

Course Outline

1.0 The Canada Shipping Act, 2001 and Related Regulation

2.0 Pollution Prevention and Response

3.0 The Criminal Code as it applies to Ships and Ship’s Crews

4.0 International Conventions; National Legislation and Regulations

5.0 Master’s Responsibilities during times of Pilotage, Marine Occurrences, Salvage, Noting and Extending Protest and Entering Ports of Refuge
