Certificate Awarded

Upon successful completion, the candidate will be awarded a certificate of achievement and a Transport Canada Training Certificate

Prerequisites

1) Watchkeeping Mate or
2) a Cadet in the final year of their Nautical Science Program having successfully completed their qualifying sea service.

Course Description

  The purpose of the course is to provide training to navigation officers to operate ships in polar waters and to meet the Mandatory minimum STCW requirements for the training and qualifications of masters and deck officers on ships operating in polar waters, specifically as these apply to Tables A-V/4-1 "Specification of minimum standard of competence in basic training for ships operating in polar waters" This 35 hour course is supported by a learning management system called BRIGHTSPACE (formally Desire2Learn or D2L). This web-based application will allow you to access all your course materials and communicate with your instructor and your classmates. "This is a six-day course and will consist of two live presented Lectures each day, supplemented with online Quizzes and daily Homework Assignments, followed by a Written Exam at the end."
