Marine Institute approved medical clearance

This course is designed to provide students with basic practical experience of marine transfer from pilot boat to vessel using a pilot ladder, accommodation ladder and a basket transfer within a safe and controlled environment.

To provide students with the knowledge to be able to:

• Examine pilot ladder construction and condition and evaluate whether or not it is safe to use
• Identify hazards associated with climbing a pilot rope ladder, accommodation ladder and a basket transfer
• Understand the safe procedure for being transferred on a basket transfer
• Know when it is, and is not, safe to undertake a marine transfer and the effective use of STOP
• Understand and be resilient to peer and client pressure
• Apply basic sea survival techniques
• Prepare for practical field training
