Prerequisites

Dynamic Positioning-DPO Preparation or Dynamic Positioning-Induction & Watchkeeping Mate Certificate or equivalent.
or
Navigation Cadet enrolled in a regulated training program.

Course Description

This course is designed to provide the ships officer with theory and practical simulator experience relating to ship maneuvering of shuttle tankers in port, confined waters and at offshore installations. The use of anchors and ship maneuvering using tugs is also covered.

Course Outline

At the end of the course the student should:

  • Have an understanding of the forces involved, related to ship handling in general and offshore loading in particular.
  • Be able to plan and carry out manual manoeuvers in port, confined waters and at offshore installations.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the use of all propulsion machinery, navigational equipment, thrusters, steering systems and deck equipment involved with manual manoeuvering.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the use of anchors.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the use of tugs.
  • Have knowledge and understanding of the use of rate of turn techniques.
